Growing Pains, Birthing Change

“Everybody wants change, but no one wants to change”. ~Author Unkown~

Now, you might agree or disagree with this saying and that is okay, but we must be honest with ourselves when you pick a side. This piece is for anyone who is yearning for something new to happen to them but cannot seem to figure out why it is taking so long. Sit back, get a glass of water or juice whichever suits you and let’s talk for a minute.

A lot of people at this time are weary of the word “change” in fact; it has become a cliché in recent times because of a very popular misrepresentation of the word. However, we cannot grow if we do not learn to embrace change because change they say is the only constant thing in life; everything else changes (see what we did there?) okay moving on. People want change, every day we are clamoring for change; a change of clothes, a change of hairstyles, a change of circumstances, a change of social status etc. Every single day, we are demanding for something to change whether we do it actively or passively, there is a demand. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these demands, but, the problem here is that all the demands we make are external and temporal because tomorrow will come, we will get bored and the cycle begins again.

It can be a vicious cycle, but that is only because we are trying to change everything and everyone except the one person that truly needs the change, ‘You’. There is a quote that goes thus, “Nobody changes unless it hurts them more to stay the same, than it does to change”~ Author Unknown~.  This saying has proven to be true is so many cases and has led to loses that can never be recovered from in some cases. So there you are, in an unfavorable situation and nothing that you’ve done has worked out so far and maybe you’re stuck because it is your business or something that is seemingly beyond your control. Well, maybe it is time that you changed yourself to get the best out of that situation or business.

Maybe you have been on the offensive, try being on the defensive

Maybe you have been reactive, try being proactive for a change

Maybe you have been passive, try being intentional

Maybe you need to change your attitude towards that person or situation, maybe you need to change your definition of comfort so that you can be more productive. Maybe it is your work ethics that need to change. There are so many ways you can look at to try and become more productive, things that you can change about yourself to achieve your desired results. By all means change them but do not lose your core essence; that which makes you human and sets you apart in the process.

Work on changing your attitude to life and people and you will be amazed at how productive you become. You will find that you are developing your human Capital  which will in turn create a ripple effect on other people.
